Just a Thought or..Is Common Sense Really Extinct

The following was something I shared on social media back in 2012.

Bought a “device” last night that contained this listing–

What device are we using??????????

ready?

a jump rope.

Even now, all these years later, I shake my head over the fact someone had or thought they had to put these warnings on a jump rope. But then, how many other warnings have we seen on items that have been used for years safely? Of course that was before we reached this time slot. In this day and time we have people doing some really odd and dangerous things to gain attention. So called influencers  in an act to gain fame and hoped for fortune have encouraged their followers to act as they do. Sadly, many of these people have died in the pursuit of their dream goals.

Common sense it seems has gone extinct. The desire for that fifteen minutes of fame, has killed it off. People in parks, on roadways, or even in town where wild animals appear seem to think it perfectly safe to walk up to these animals. Many of these animals then have to prove they are wild animals. They will act as wild animals, for they are in the wild not a petting zoo.

People have ignored signs telling them areas are not safe and have fallen off mountains or into geysers. Just for that sought after selfie.

People have and continue to consume things not meant to be eaten.

I think many of us have become very vain and self absorbed. Those who are not, have every right to be annoyed with those who are. My own son has reprimanded me a time or two during a conversation when he will remind me, “It isn’t all about you”. Well, I know that. Even as there are times my conversation may not seem that to be true.

I will say however, there are times when people may not so much be after the fame and notoriety as much as attempting to find their way. The quests, the selfies, the missteps often no more than another part of the journey. As long as the mistakes allow growth and education, it has worth. As long as we come to the understanding that to be truly successful, is when we understand that it is more important to show others their worth. To give others the gift of encouragement and peace. If we try to do all we can to help make life better for others, then in return, life will be better for us.
