Preparations For What Is Coming

Signs of the storm’s coming arrival are here. The winds have picked up causing the trees to sway crazily. The roof of the house is being bombed by acorns. Earlier it sounded as if someone was tap dancing up there. The colony seems to have already taken shelter as I’ve only seen them very briefly this morning. Molly the not so brave, is already in panic mode over the winds.

I listened to the weather in various forms earlier. Parts of Florida are in shambles. I’ve heard or seen evidence from many I know who live there that they are safe. I pray the death toll will be small. I’m trying to keep up with the possible tracks of the storm and where it may go. Currently it has it coming back directly at us. I would say that being so far inland we should be fine, but Hurricane Hugo taught me better than to think that way. So I watch, and I make preparations.

I bought batteries. I have replaced all the batteries in lanterns I have here. I bought a new flashlight because my old one seemingly fell off into some devil’s triangle of household items. I’ve made sure I have nonperishable foodstuffs. I have pet food (though I may need to check the dog’s dry food) I had my son swap out the propane tank on the grill. If nothing else I will have my coffee.  In a short while I will begin filling up containers of water. I’m also filling up bags of ice so the ice maker can stay busy. I will make sure I keep the phone charged. I wanted to fill up the Jeep yesterday but mom was with me and the line at the pumps was extremely long. I may try today if I go out about the dog food.

Preparations for what is coming. A storm that can and possibly will bring destruction that can be repaired. A temporary struggle. One would hope anyway. But what about another, more important coming that has eternal consequences?

The Lord told us He will return. We are seeing signs told in the Bible that are a warning for us so we can be prepared.

But are we ready? Have we prepared ourselves for His return? Have we shared through word and action, through the way we live, to let others know of His return? Or do we go about as if there are no worries or concerns? He is coming, when He returns if we are His, our name will be written in the Book of Life and we will be eternity with Him. If not, it is an eternity spent separated for God and loved ones. Cast into desolation no one would ever want to endure.

Preparation is key, and it begins with acceptance of God’s forgiveness and love.
