Blowing In The Wind

The wind has been picking up all evening. We had been told it would as it ushers in a cold front. It is Autumn after all. Molly is not happy which means Bella is not happy as Molly’s fear has her sitting almost on top of Bella. Bella can only take her personal space being compromised for so long and then she will show her annoyance. So they both have been given Hemp calming treats.

While they both dose, I am listening to the wind outside. I am also listening to acorns and small limbs falling. Every once in a while I hear a crack that sounds like something larger preparing to give way. The lights have flickered, not going out, just dimming slightly and then coming back to strength. I really hope that the winds don’t cause a power outage for anyone.

The temperature has been dropping steadily, the winds having a much cooler feel. It is so different than earlier today when the temperature was in the nineties and the sun definitely warmed the air. But this, is a warning of what is to come. A reminder that summer’s time has passed even if it will try to hang around. Even if we do have some very warm days still to come, Autumn has arrived and will make itself known.

Bella listening to the wind and wondering why I would ever paint a door white

Now to be fair, I don’t mind Autumn. I love the feel of less humidity and the aroma of fall in the woods. The colorful scenes of leaves exploding in color, that last hurrah before they fall I find humbling. Nature going out in a blaze of glory before Winter steps in for its turn.

With the temperatures dropping, I will be able to get out and do much needed yard work. I’ll be able to gather firewood, stacking the smaller stuff that was left in the yard from the tree being cut and preparing to split the larger. I need to make sure the wood stove and chimney are cleared and ready. I’ll probably need to get the ladder up here and clear the fallen leaves and limbs from the roof. I purchased shorter metal fence posts to drive along the fence to prevent the dogs from being able to pull the fence up and give them an escape route to chase the cats. I also don’t want them getting out and someone accusing them of doing harm when I know right now, all they want to do is chase the colony that torments them by strolling across the yard just out of reach. I’ve been spending way too much time sitting and really need to get up and move. Clearing the yard is the perfect thing to get me doing just that. I know tonight’s winds will add more to be cleared but that’s okay too, as long as everything avoids the roof.

My son wasn’t able to repair my Jeep today, they were much too busy and I really don’t want him staying over too long after a long day of working. I remember when I did that back when I was working, I know it isn’t fun. Hopefully tomorrow.
