Sometimes, you just have to figure it out.
Beside my driveway, fifteen feet or so away from the house, is this large Oak tree. Now, I love my trees and would fight you over them. However, this tree is not healthy. It has to go. I’ve only been trying, intermittently, to find someone to cut this tree down for almost two years. I would get frustrated with the estimates every time. Maybe they are right, good things come to he who waits.

This tree, as the photo shows, is dying. It has dead limbs all the way up its length. It has dropped limbs into the driveway, one of the larger ones took out the back glass in my son’s charger. It has to go before it does any more damage.

A few months back I was talking with my brother who knows a guy. Okay, we’ve all heard that but I listened. My brother has known him for a while and he’s a really good, Christian gentleman. He knows what he is doing and he will do me right. My brother said he would get his business information for me so I could call him. Well mom got sick and spent time in the hospital and I forgot. It was when my brother called talking about firewood that I remembered and got him to resend me the information. And this time I called.

A gentleman came out and took a look at the tree. Proximity to the house isn’t a problem. Size isn’t an issue as they will use a bucket truck. I will keep the wood and there will be nothing for them to haul away as all limbs and waste will be dragged into the woods behind the house. There I will let it rot down into mulch. He gave me an estimate that is lower than the three thousand average that everyone else was giving me. As much as I don’t want to do it, I’m going to use money from the home equity account I have. Then pay that back as quickly as possible. The house has been free and clear for almost three years, I want to keep it that way. Being retired and on a set income, sometimes you have no choice. This, is one of those times.

So he’s coming today for the deposit and probably later next week to take down the tree. That bare spot will look odd, but empty and odd is better than having a tree that rains limbs of destruction down onto what ever is below.

Oh yeah, that tree is a Widow Maker! Gotta go man before it drops on your home during a big storm, summer, or winter. Gotta do what ya gotta do, Rebecca. Smart decision!
God’s perfect timing! I understand about being sad to see it go . Maybe you can plant a new tree.
