Day Seventeen; Footnotes Snow Much Fun..Is It Spring Yet? Including a Photo or Two

I couldn’t resist any longer. I sat here this morning watching out the window, hearing the woods behind the house calling to me. I ignored it as long as I could, but finally gave in and decided I was heading out.

I just had to find my boots. I hadn’t had to wear them in a while so who knew how deeply they were buried in my small closet. It took a while of digging and shoving old shoes aside, but I finally found both boots. I then began layering on the clothing. I was determined that I was not going to voluntarily get cold. After I was finally dressed, I found a leash for Bella and off we headed into the woods. I did think to grab a hiking stick that I had been given months ago but never used, until today.

Bella was all excited heading into the woods. Nose down she was alert to any scents that she may come across. There were many different tracks in the snow. Tracks from the cats, from racoon, from my nephew and his dog all were there for Bella to find and track. I had only attached the leash to her collar and not put her halter on because I didn’t want her thinking we were going to the mountain. Yes, she thinks and she lets us know exactly what is on her mind. Which is one reason I took her with me today. I did have to remind her to slow down a time or two. I seriously didn’t want to be pulled off my feet on that snow covered hillside.

We got down to the pond and I took photos as we walked around and across the bridge. Then we headed across the field, up the hill and off through the woods. The only sounds were our footsteps crunching through the snow. Occasionally I would hear a bird call or would have to remind Bella to go slow, otherwise it was quiet. When I would tell her to wait, she stopped and stood quietly while I took photos.
As I got to my sister in law’s house mom called asking where I was. When I told her she wondered why. I just wanted to walk off the cabin fever. She asked if I would stop and feed her birds but I told her to let me take Bella home first. I then went back and filled the bird feeders, then her wood box.

After I left mom’s, I walked up to the main road to see what it looked like. It had not been scraped and had the ruts in the snow from the vehicles that had gone through. The temperature is supposed to drop drastically tonight, tomorrow morning is going to be a mess. I am definitely glad I don’t have to be out in it but also praying for those who do.

Its been an amazing event. Seeing all the photos and videos of kids having so much fun in something we so rarely have here. Sledding, building all manner of snowmen, or snow sculptures. Discussing snow cream and whether to eat snow from the first snowfall. Grocery stores were emptied and empty parking lots were turned into skating rinks for vehicles while the hills were for the sleds. Crockpots were put to use for chili and soups and wood stoves burning hot.

It has been, interesting and fun. I got some photos. I’m ready for Spring. But of course now they are saying we may just get more this coming weekend. How many days till Spring?

  1. The scenery looks beautiful – we don’t get much snow in Sai Gon !

    • We actually don’t get a lot here. The mountains of North Carolina often blocking it from this area. When we do get snow it creates an amazing wonderland of peace and beauty. It is also however dangerous as many people do not know how to drive in it.
