Day 337; Footnotes of I Managed to Get a Little Done In spite of Interruptions

Today did not go as hoped.

I had so many big plans. I had a list and it was long. The minute I stepped outside to start, mom drove by to her house. within minutes she was up standing in my yard needing me to go to the big box store with her to look about blinds. She has been looking for blinds for months and she thinks she found some, but she wasn’t sure because of something written on the box.As I was trying to put off going, at least late enough to finish raking my driveway. But my son called. He needed lunch as the lunch they had provided at work for Christmas, was in his words, “insulting”.

Giving in to the inevitable, I stopped what I was doing. I went to get what my son wanted and then called mom. I told her where I was going and did she want me to stop and pick her up on my way past. Yep, of course she did. I took my son his lunch then off mom and I went to see about those blinds. We then proceeded to wander all over that store. Paying for the blinds I drover over to fill the car with gas. I had something for a friend and thought she was at Lowe’s. I drove over there, found out I had missed her. When I got back in the car and tried to start it, the car wouldn’t start. No matter what I tried, the thing would not start. I called my son, who was also not having a good day and almost blew me off. He did call me back, told me his manager was letting him run down to see what was up. Suddenly the car started and I called him back. He told me to drive up to the dealership but not stop the car. He couldn’t find a blatant issue and since the car was now starting as it should I headed for home. I took mom home and when I walked into my own home, I debated on whether to try and get at least a little done, or give up on the day. I ended up going outside and finishing raking my driveway. I now have a long line of leaves that need to be raked up onto a tarp and dragged off into the woods. I then got my dad’s mower and tried to mulch the leaves in their front yard. I had started the other day but killed my mower.

As I made the laps around the yard I saw mom standing out in the yard. Stopping the mower once I got close she showed me a small bag of candy. She buys the variety bags of chocolate, but no one but my son and I like the semi-sweet chocolate so she saves that for us. She told me she would leave it on the porch for me. I nod, and go to start again. Just as I was thinking I was going to actually finish, here comes dad. I stop the mower and he has to show me roots and stumps that I already knew about. I let him show me, and then decided that enough was enough. Daylight was fading so I came home. Tomorrow is another day so maybe I will be able to get more or at least something done. Lord willing I should see another day.

When I was raking, I uncovered a worm snake. They are small and harmless and they eat bugs mostly. It was not happy when I grabbed it. It actually managed to slip from my grasp and disappear twice before I found it again and used it for a photo shoot before releasing it back into the leaves near my fence. As I released it, I noticed that one of my bushes is blooming. Its December. But then the past couple of days and the next are much warmer than would be expected this time of year. I’m not complaining though as I love the warmer, clear weather. Tomorrow is a local toys for tots motorcycle run in which my son participates. Asking for those who believe and pray to pray for safe travels for all participating as I imagine the good weather will bring them out in the thousands.

Talk about a day taking on its own life. I would say you handled all the changes pretty good. Being flexible is a good thing to be…
