I want to understand. I do.
It seems that we are living in a time of great and easy availability of information, but there is still so little understanding. I won’t claim to understand everything going on around the world, but I will say that I want to understand. I want, to not only have the understanding, but the ability to share that understanding in a way that is easily comprehended and further shared. I have mentioned many times about paying a visit to the rabbit hole in search of information before sharing my writing. I want to feel as assured as possible that what I am putting out there is as correct as possible. I have learned the hard, embarrassing and painful way, the results of not doing that very thing. I have often had to eat proverbial crow for my missteps. I have also watched others suffer the consequences of acting without thinking.
Someone I once upon a lifetime ago worked with also learned the hard way. A fellow coworker told them that a large order was being returned, the customer was highly upset over a mistake or quality or what ever the reason they gave. It was set to arrive at any moment. This person was high enough on the corporate ladder that it was essential they take care of the issue immediately but also that those higher than them knew. So they made the necessary contacts. Those contacts trying to contact the upset company to find out what was going on. Then they hurried to the dock to wait on the arrival. Only to moments later find out they were the victim of an April Fool’s joke. There was massive fall out from that all the way around. The creator of the joke not understanding the dominoes they were setting into action. The primary target dealing with the embarrassment while the further up the ladder had to explain what was going on with the customer making them appear ignorant of our operations. I have no clue what punishment the perpetrator of this disaster was given. A disaster because the victim trusted blindly and jumped without investigating further first.
Currently we are in a society on edge. There are so many volatile situations going on around us. There are too many people ready and willing to jump into the fray without seeking that further information. Even the situations that need to be attended to, need to be examined and handled in the correct methods to earn the best results. Ready examples are of entire neighborhoods being burned to the ground, deaths and injuries during protests gone out of any semblance of control, police being defunded, first responders being shot at, victims turned into villains and the list goes on.
If I would ask for a gift, it would be the gift of understanding why there are those who readily jump to the dark side. Why, so many seek destruction over building? Why perpetrate ignorance of education. Why the lack of understanding over finding understanding? Why hate over love? Do so many see the dark side as stronger than the light? Why demand others understand, when actions lack comprehension?
But, I would ask for deeper understanding. The knowledge of what drives the actions.
What hurt, what anger, what dissatisfaction of circumstances drives the forces to act as they do?
What pain lives within the thoughts, the mind, the heart of the hurting that drives them?
What ignorance thrives in a society that should know better?
What misunderstood, or complete lack of understanding of differences in all forms cause so many unnecessary problems?
What can I do, as an individual to learn, to understand and to share that knowledge to a point that it helps?
As a Christian, what I do understand is that a large part of the issues, is demonic. Satan and his demons are intent on feeding the misunderstandings and causing the dark side to grow and expand. No one is exempt from the possibilities, we all have the potential of stumbling and creating or in the least adding to the problems rather than helping in creating answers and resolutions.
Hate and its counterparts are strong and easily fed. Love however, is greater and can produce more lasting solutions. That leads me to this question, how to get others, to understand the concept that we can love others, even those who are different. If I could request a gift during the month of my birth, it would be understanding.
