Question for Those Who Know

If I upgrade to a paid plan…what does that involve? What will I have to do?

Will I have to set anything up? Make any changes? Or will it still look and function as it does now?

I really don’t need anything elaborate, I’m happy with this and just writing and sharing thoughts here. I honestly and openly admit that I simply want to be able to add the donate option.

I don’t really want to place any ads because I find them an annoyance and I really don’t want anything about my site to annoy anyone. I just want to try to have the option available. For the ones with generous hearts..

Thanks my friends, you are greatly appreciated.

  1. I’m researching the same thing. When I learn anything useful, I’ll be sure to pass it on.

I just looked at my plan and the others. I think you would be happiest with the Premium plan, 8$ a month, billed annually. Have a look in your Plans area, you have 13G storage and more.

    • I was looking at that, and even discussed that one with my son. Of course he wandered off without offering to assist me in any way due to the fact that I know, if I do this, as technologically challenged as I am, if I screw something up I’ll be yelling for him and he really gets tired of helping me so much ..even though it is less often now.

      • John says:

From my perspective, he should be glad that his mum is alive…

      • My son? Oh I’m sure he is. He took it very hard when his dad died. He is such an old soul and wants to look out for everyone, especially the older ones. My parents live next door, he is constantly checking on them, ready on the spot if needed. He walked around the corner of their house one day and found my mother on the ground where she had fallen. He dang near panicked. But, he got her up and in the house. He does try to make sure I’m okay, especially if I’m not feeling the best. It just annoys him when I mess something up…again. And haven’t figured out how to fix my mistakes.

      • John says:

He sounds like a good man, one that I respect. Sometimes our mistakes can’t be repaired…

      • Not with my limited knowledge and lack of desire in knowing the workings of the computer. I just want to write..and no, I didn’t click on some random thing again..

I’ve upgraded twice; once on each of my blogs. Nothing changes in terms of your site layout, etc… You do however, have the option to change things and take advantage of premium themes, etc…

The big trouble is that if you make those changes and later revert to a free plan, it completely trashes your site since you no longer have access to the new theme you were using. It took me a week to get my other blog straightened out after that.

Oh and if you use that free domain name option… To use it after the year is up, you have to renew the WP status also. You can’t just keep the registered domain name as a primary address for your site otherwise.

Long explanation short, you’ll be fine if you either keep premium status forever OR only add that donation button like you said.

    • Thank you. I’m not any sort of business and don’t envision myself becoming any sort of entrepreneur so the business accounts are pointless. My thoughts and hopes were that I would not have to change anything in the swap. Just look exactly like it does now only with that one added feature. The site said that the cost is charged annually, does that cover everything? There’s nothing else that’s going to pop up being owed? It would just be super nice if I could just add the donate button without having to upgrade, but I guess I can’t have everything my way.

      • Silk Cords says:

No hidden fees popping up during that year. However, they won’t throw you a discount offer on your renewal, and that free domain name gets REAL expensive the second year.

      • Yeah, that was part of my concerns. When you say real (fearfully noted in all capital letters) how real? I don’t want to do this..in all honesty simply for the donation option..and not draw in enough to cover that expense. But then, if I believe this is where I am being lead, one must step out in faith..

  4. I moved to the Premium Plan ..it works best. The Business is a bit tough to deal with and difficult for people to comment .

  5. leendadll says:

Very little work… pick a name. Subscriptions work a little differently… we can’t see your full posts in the wp reader (which is ad free!) but it only takes 1 extra click.

    • I don’t want to make anything any more difficult for anyone who wishes to read my mind ramblings. I don’t even know if it would be worth it, but I’ll never know until I try. Putting that faith thing into action.

  6. I may bite the bullet then tomorrow and see what happens..if I disappear you know I goofed up somewhere..

  7. Silk Cords says:

Odd… It’s not giving me the answer to reply to your last question within that chain of comments.

I’m sleep deprived right now and not remembering the exact total on the domain name, but those domain names are much more affordable elsewhere. The easy option is just don’t claim the custom domain name. 🙂

    • So sorry about the sleep deprivation, been there faced that.
Actually, I’m quite content with what I call my little space here and whether it be an official or unofficial domain..having wordpress on the end doesn’t bother me. So being able to continue without accepting the free for a year then getcha later domain is a good thing.
