Part 2- What’s Your Pleasure?

“Choose wisely.” I caught myself muttering to myself, or was I actually speaking to the bear who waited for my decision? The dragonfly had returned to rest on the lip of the glass, it too watched as I pondered my choice.

I wondered what part the bear played in this…adventure. I wondered if the so called personality of each bear, had anything to do with the level of intensity of the adventure. Could it be that the smaller brown bear, would mean that the adventure would be easier? Less of a challenge? While the Grizzly having a meaner reputation could the adventure be more dangerous? And what of the Polar Bear? They not only are adapted to the cold, but are also good swimmers. Maybe, it was a clue, maybe it had nothing to do with this at all.

But why am I sitting here, watching a dragonfly watch me while three bears stand around waiting for a decision that made no sense. I looked at the shadow rings on the cloth before me. There seemed to be no clue waiting there. Nothing to help me.

The food stuffs scattered around the cloth was your typical picnic fare, ever for bears. What with the berries, raw fish and eww, insects. Still, the bear sat back, not moving forward nor moving back. All the while the sun was slowly setting and in another part of the sky the full moon began to slowly rise, filling the darkening sky with an entirely different light. Odd, that the rings didn’t fade, they stood out on the cloth as bold as before.

“You must choose”

I looked up as the sound, unsure of where the voice had come. None of the bear seemed guilty, the dragonfly looked mildly annoyed and bored.

Maybe, the personality of the bear has nothing to do with the adventure, or maybe, it does but in the fact of which one is most out of place. But how do I decide which circle corresponds to which bear.  Looking from the circles on the cloth up to the bear, they were lined as closely as possible to the way the circles were on the cloth.

Still somewhat unsure of what I was about to get myself into, the disembodied voice again spoke, “You must choose, but choose wisely.”

I glanced at the dragonfly, which looked for all the world as if it were not reclining on the rim of the glass, legs crossed before it.

“Second to my great intellectual capabilities, modesty is my best quality, so I am going  with great humility make a choice.”Unimpressed with my declaration the dragonfly didn’t move. Glancing once more at the positioning of the bear, I placed my hand solidly on the outside circle across from the Polar Bear, “What’s your pleasure, oh one ready for what comes? This one.”

And the bottom of the world dropped away and I felt myself falling. Drat that Alice in Wonderland comparison.
