January Eighth: A New Song

Music soothes the savage beast, so they say. The beast this time has become, desperately needs music.

Our heart, holds its own songs within. Songs that are special to each of us individually in ways only we understand. The memories and emotions that are forever attached, that stir us in various ways.

Music itself, holds power.

Music, holds healing:

Personally, I love almost all types of music. Even the sounds that I generally call more noise than music, has its moments of attention.  I have found that music, in all of its parts, have purpose. That rousing high school band music that has the home team fans up and screaming. That elevator music that helps calm the claustrophobic as the small box moves to its destination. That old time rock and roll that has one dancing in their underwear in their living room. It all moves you in some way.

Whether it is instrumental alone of a song with lyrics, it brings feelings. Love songs create moods, ballads tell stories, novelty songs bring a laugh. The list goes on, each with their own emotion attached.

Music is not all man made.  Nature has songs all its own. The pounding of a waterfall, the gentle drumming of a summer shower, the different tones of the wind through the trees. The symphony created when the birds sing, joined by the bullfrog, cricket and all other inhabitants of nature around them. Many say that there is a silence over the land when it snows, and there is, but it also plays its own soft music. You only need listen.

The songs of the world are all around you.Even in the city, the heart can transform city sounds to its own beat and rhythms. In the depths of the oceans, such as the songs of the whales. Even in a few areas of space, there is sound. https://www.thefactsite.com/is-space-silent/

It is in the heart, in the mind and soul, where the music resides. This past year, has attempted and to some degree, stolen our music. The music that heals, the music that inspires, the music that drives us is suffering and fading. The fight to survive has left us weary. The struggle to adapt to the changes, tired our heart. The battle to understand and learn, has exhausted our mind. We need a new song.

We need a song that will renew our spirit, one that will unite us in the struggle to overcome all that we have faced in the past months. We need a song that will heal the wounds that have been inflicted upon us by events or by self.  Maybe, it can be an old song, that we have held dear, but need to hear in a new light. To hear with a new understanding, that would, in itself make it new.

How many times, have you heard the musical strains of a song you remember, only to realize the artist has given it new words? Different words, that can give the song new meaning. We need that.

A song that will encourage our heart and spirit to heal. Where our hearts can see the wounds we have inflicted on each other and on our individual country. While the people of the U.S. have been busy inflicting great pain and deep woulds on ourselves, other lands have suffered their own pains. As humans, with human emotions, we need to rise up in compassion and with love, heal those injuries. A band aid will not suffice, we need to do a deep cleaning and strive for the health of our world in all forms.

A song, where we can rise up and look out across the land we love with a new vision.  Where we can see the mistakes that have been made, and where corrections are needed. A sight of the lines we have drawn that need be erased so that we may come together as one. One that is stronger and better than before. A sight, of where we have delegated people to certain levels. Where we see then as less than human. Levels and designations that need to be removed. Whether one is wealthy or poor in material things does not matter. Whether one is a Rhodes Scholar or a drop out, doesn’t matter. Whether one is this, that, or another, doesn’t matter, we are all human. We all have the same emotions, the same needs, the same heart.

A song, that will inspire. A life time ago, there was a commercial on television that wanted to teach the world to sing. John Lennon sang, Imagine. There are untold numbers of songs meant to bring us together. Examples listed here: https://spinditty.com/playlists/10-Best-Songs-of-Hope-for-Humanity-and-a-Better-World

I know, this is only a few, but it shows we do seek to come together, be better, create a better world. I think, that we forget. We get distracted, we get busy, we get fearful. We have battles that pull us away from the work and hope of doing better, to mere survival.

But we need that coming together, now more than ever. To assist in that survival. To strengthen our spirit, to renew our compassion, to return our humanity. We need that new song to inspire and encourage us. We need that anthem of hope and love, to bring us together. That new song.

A musical bridge is a passage of music that contrasts the verse and the chorus, and is generally used to take the listener from one section to the next. (thank you google) A bridge, can also take us from current struggles, to healing. We need only build that bridge.
