January Sixth; A New Dream (2)

So most of us will agree that the year that shall not be named, was a bit of a mess. Okay, a lot of a mess. To try and straighten out what that year brought, would to some degree be like trying to untangle spaghetti. While we cannot simply walk away from all that was dropped on us last year, the nightmare that it was. We can turn our face forward and create a new dream. Are you with me?

We can acknowledge what last year taught us but not allow it to control our thoughts and actions. We can take the lessons, and grow from them. Putting all of our attention on moving forward. Not allowing the negative to distract us from positive results. We need to place our thoughts solely on growth. Concentrate on improving not only our life and situation, but in society and the world around us. See the need and respond in ways that fulfill but also offer a way the recipient can pay it forward.

That parts of last year were insane. There are many who are lacking in a real understanding of almost anything but especially on the fact that remembering history, even and sadly the ugly parts, are important. We aren’t called to like the bad, but to learn from the wrongs done. Humanity, on a whole, are imperfect, making mistakes and sadly causing harm. I would like to think that we have progressed as time has passed. I would like to think, and believe, that we have learned. I fear though, that after witnessing some of the events from last year, that we have not. I fear, that many may have been mislead and convinced that the only way to correct a wrong, was to delete the evidence. To remove all signs of what was, thinking if we don’t see the memorials, then it didn’t happen. Instead, we need to understand, that the past did happen. We were wrong, cruel even inhumane to each other. We need to take that understanding and bring change. A new dream of a better togetherness and strength. A new knowledge of creating a life where we build up instead of destroy.

No matter where we reside on this planet. No matter where we call home at any moment. No matter who we are, our outward appearance, our accent, our education level, financial level, society level…we all have that one thing in common. We are all human. We all have the same needs, the same requirements to live. We all need food, water, shelter, a reason to continue. Some of us are in better positions than others, but that doesn’t change our human status. What is important is being able to see beyond where we stand and have the ability to reach out and lift up others. To give them a dignity, a hope that life will get better.

As a Christian, I have a faith and belief that this life is not the end, but merely a journey. That we are traveling here only temporarily. But that as we travel, we are to show love to all. Understand that no one is better, no one is less than us. That our purpose is to shine the light of  our Savior that lives within. To shine the light of love.

Most of us, at one time or other, have had a dream. We dream of being a great actor, doctor, scientist, explorer. The list goes on and on. We see that as the perfect life. To accomplish that dream would mean we had succeeded in reaching our goals. Our dreams to be wealthy. Our dreams to have a big house. Our dreams to be part of a great symphony. Our dreams to be an author whose words touch hearts and inspire others. All are worthy in their own right.

What if though, we reached a little higher?  What if, we set aside the material dreams and reached for the humane? What if, we set aside the desire for fame, and money and notoriety and sought to raise the hopes of the despondent? What if, we opened eyes long closed to the plight of those around us? A plight made much worse by what we still are struggling our way through. This world and her people are facing a time of great struggles. We are fighting a world wide pandemic where the loss of life has been great. We are facing financial loss of great magnitude. Many are fighting simply to feed their family. The loss of jobs worse than had been imagined at the beginning of this. The mental and emotional state of many has reached a very low, dark point.

We need a new dream. We need a dream of where we reach out to one another as family. That we are not this race or that. We are not this political affiliate or that. We are not anything but brothers and sisters reaching out to one another in a desire to lift each other out of a bad position into a better one. We are reaching out, to encourage one another. We are reaching out to strengthen one another. We are reaching out in ways that bring hope to our heart and peace to our soul. We are reaching out like a phoenix rising from the ashes to build a new, stronger, better, more humane life. We are reaching out, to dream a new dream. Together.

Each new sunrise, brings a new dream waiting to be realized.
