November Seventeenth; For What Knowledge am I Thankful?

Here we go. Yep, I’ve grown to love these topics because they are a gateway to expression. In the beginning of the month and the challenge, it was simply fun. It was a potato chip type discussion in that I couldn’t pick just one. I still don’t, but instead of a slight dread in the approach, it has become to me an incredible writing adventure.

To be able to attain knowledge and comprehension is the true access to everything. Before we can do, we must learn. The avenues to learning are vast and their destinations amazing. What an adventurous journey it is, this road to understanding. The growth that we undergo with each step. Realizing that this journey is not a straight road of a super highway but a road that has many detours and side roads and souvenir stands along the way.

Not all journeys will be easy. There will be roadways under construction. There will be detours that take you off the well known path onto the lessor known, less traveled, but with treasures waiting. Some roads will be an uphill struggle, maybe even snow covered or have rain pouring down, making the journey more difficult. Yet, that view from the top awaits you.

The maps we have, the information given by those who have traveled before us, is incomplete. It is their discovery, it is a vague pirate’s map of lines with an x marking a spot, with much left out. The much, that is waiting for us.

We have the books they’ve written, the untold number of articles, videos, and documentaries to peruse. These are but the appetizer, teasing us, preparing us for what we will find in our own journey. If we hunger enough to continue.

There are those who seek, just enough. The just enough to get by, just enough to be able to do the bare minimum of what is required of them. All the while not knowing what they are missing.

There are those, who hunger, who with an understanding, seek out more. They want to know what will give them an edge or a step up in what they are doing. There are those, who want to be more capable.

Then, there are the starved, the adventurous. The ones who may hold the map but set out to discover what is along the way before the x. They want to know what is swimming in the brook, or growing on that mountaintop. They want to find what hasn’t been found, discover the next great thing. They want to prove that what has been declared extinct is not. To prove the Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch, or that the chupacabra are real. Striving to reach into the galaxy seeking life, or into the depths of the oceans viewing what resides there.

Those who once they learned to read that first book have not looked back. The ones who watched a documentary on the stars, saw their first science fiction movie and felt that seed of imagination sprout. The ones who watched a chick hatch from an egg, or a butterfly emerge from a cocoon and were inspired to understand life more.

The ones who have learned much, and seek to share. To feed the youth and give them a hunger to learn. To offer the key to the gateway and hope they not only take it, but grab it and run. Unlocking the gate and reaching for the never ending possibilities that are out there. Understanding that no matter how much they may know, there is always more. A next step and a next that takes you farther. That inspires and thrills and gives you that greater hunger for even more of the adventures waiting.

For what knowledge am I thankful?  The knowledge that to learn is to grow, to grow is to improve, to improve is to gain more assurance and strength, to gain is to acquire a bravery and a hunger for the adventure that is found while seeking knowledge. What main course of learning we choose, doesn’t matter. The choice in methods of learning, do not matter. It is choosing to take that first step, no matter the road. It is our journey, an open mind the key. Accepting the challenge to grow, and enjoying the adventure along the way.

Do you hunger to know, what awaits around that next bend?
