It takes more than talk

Who loves doing research? Who gets excited about the challenge of finding new, more detailed information on topics that are currently on your mind? Who seeks out those self help articles with the plan of doing something better? Thinking that within the words of wisdom from others, things will be better.

Reading and research do have the potential for making things better, but reading is not the final step. We can read a well written article that has every smidgen of information we need for our project at hand, but if read is all we do, we have gained nothing.

We can read every article, every book, hear every pod cast and watch every video, but it takes more.

We can dream and daydream to our heart’s content. We can visualize the finished project, yet we are not there.

We can get into deep conversations with individuals of like mind, discussion every minute detail of the project. Starting with point A through Z and have the project verbally worked out, still, there is more before your project is fully accomplished.

It takes more than talk, it takes action. It means putting down the books, rolling up the plans and picking up the right tools for the job.

Desire, to actually accomplish the project and not allow it to be that dream goal that someday you reach.

Determination, that no matter what happens, no matter what or who you may be missing, you map out your goal, you set your sights on the finish line and you make it happen.

Strength, to stand up against the things that seek to cause procrastination.

Belief, in yourself and that you can accomplish your goal, ignoring those who scoff and ridicule.

Faith, that you are on the right road, the right project, that the words you write, the colors you stroke across the canvas, the notes you sing or the dance step you take, what ever is a part of your project, you know you are doing what is right for you.

I’ll be the first to admit, I can talk a good talk and dream an incredible dream. I admit that I have goals with the tape across that finish line somewhere up ahead waiting. While I have friends who encourage and believe in me, taking that first step or the next, has not been easy. I have struggled with a couple of the above tools. I felt safe here in my comfort zone with my dreams. But that finish line, the completed project, is not here with me. The fractured pieces and disjointed words yes. The wishes and hopes and faint desires, yes. I have come to realize, this comfort zone, may be safe, but to live and accomplish goals, one must do more than talk.

The road to accomplishments is not an easy one, it is long and filled with all manner of ways to slow you down. Yet when you decide to do more than merely talk, and take that first step, the adventure waiting will be well worth it.
